My name is David, and I am an alcoholic and addict. I first heard of Ken through a friend of my daughter’s dad. I knew Arnold from thirty-some years ago. We hung out at a studio in Silver Lake playing music together. I hadn’t seen him since then and was very pleased to see him doing so well. Ken and Arnold have giant hearts. I was going through a rough patch with my use, so my daughter arranged for us to meet Ken in a coffee shop. My first impression of Ken was that he is very passionate about helping alcoholics. He went through the program and is one of us. We talked for a while, and I found him to be caring, loving and sincere. I started playing and traveling with famous bands at an early age. I spent most of my youth drinking and drugging. It was an occupational hazard. It caught up with me as I got older. When I bottomed out, Ken and Arnold contacted Music Cares and arranged for me to go to a rehab center. Ken called to check on me almost every day. I was clean for almost a year and then relapsed. I ended up in the hospital. Ken and my daughter were with me every step of the way. They saved my life. I’ve been sober for nine months now, and Ken continues to check on me. I owe Ken, Arnold and my daughter, Jenn, a lot for my recovery.
It is a special thing when a family is able to find the perfect person to help with counseling when time is of the essence.
We were beyond worried about our son’s struggle with substance abuse/addiction that had turned from months into years. After looking (for what felt like an eternity) for a professional who could help inspire him to be open to change, we miraculously found Ken.
It was obvious that he did not have a “one size fits all” approach. His warmth and congenial personality made us all feel comfortable and understood right away. He shared so much wisdom and experience that we knew immediately, we were in the right hands.
Words cannot express how much that meant, even though the journey to enter rehabilitation took some time, Ken walked every necessary step of the way with us to make it happen. Patient and encouraging, he was the rock that our son was able to depend on when things were at their worst.
I think if we could have “designed” the very best recovery professional to be in our family’s corner during that time, it would literally have been Ken. I have not heard, before or since, of anyone in this field who has his depth of caring, patience and knowledge.
Although busy, he makes time for you, always with a smile and a kind sense of humor that makes you feel better during the moments you need it the most.
We highly recommend Ken’s services when important change needs to come so a family member can go forward in a better way.
To Whom it May Concern,
Ken has been a God-send for us at a critical time in our lives, which includes our son and for us as parents. We were referred to Ken by another professional at a time when we didn’t know where to turn or what to do. He was patient, kind, and caring through the whole process.
He first wanted to know that he was a good fit for us before jumping into a consulting relationship and at a time when we were most vulnerable. I have a feeling that many others in the industry might take advantage of similar situations just looking to make a buck, but Ken sincerely had our best interests in mind. He carefully went over his background and credentials and wanted to fully understand our situation before jumping in and making sure he could help.
Ken’s ability to read a situation and intervene in a professional way without strong-arming anyone into a rehab was also an impressive trait. In moments of desperation, it would be easier to think that if we just got our loved one in a “safe” place that it would relieve everyone involved. While I am not saying that is the right or wrong move for any situation, it was really the careful timing and tact that Ken brought to the table often saying, “something is going to happen” and then we’ll work together through it. His patience and understanding and wise-counsel throughout the process was invaluable.
Many twists and turns happened in our story with Ken eventually being physically involved after a 6:00 AM phone call to him when our son was finally ready to make the changes based on his ownership of the situation and asking for help. Ken was right there, and while it was a messy situation, he showed up promptly and with grace. He was the right person for the job and totally understood what to do and guided us along the way with his help.
Guiding us to rehab options, being considerate of our budget, and doing daily check-ins were all part of Ken’s service deal. His contacts and relationships with many facilities and helping us to negotiate and find the right fit were invaluable. While all stories don’t turn out this way, the last rehab center and the treatment associated have been successful for many months and I don’t know where we might be without Ken’s help.
One of the most impressive things to me about Ken has been his ongoing concern for us and our son even after our arrangement and officially paid contract have been over. He still checks in occasionally even though he is not getting paid anymore, and he really is in this field for the right reasons.
